The Spatial Data Science Center (SDSC) (https://cosspp.fsu.edu/sdsc/) at Florida State University is hiring two tenure-track assistant professors in any area of spatial data science (e.g., GeoAI, spatial statistics, health, transportation, urban, crime, voting, environment, etc.). The candidate will have an academic home in one of the departments (Geography, Urban and Regional Planning, Economics, Political Science, Public Administration, Sociology) of the College of Social Sciences & Public Policy at FSU.

Responsibilities

The successful candidates will have an academic home in one of the departments of the College which will be responsible for teaching assignments. Normally, the teaching assignment is two courses per semester during the 9-month academic year.

  • Contribute to research and scholarship through high quality publications in top-tier venues.
  • Introductory undergraduate, advanced undergraduate, and graduate courses related to some aspect in the candidate's area of specialization.
  • Standard service responsibilities with rank.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in any field related to spatial data science.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear potential to produce frontier research in any aspect of spatial data science.
  • An established record of successful teaching at the university level, commensurate with the rank being sought, and a demonstrated ability to teach and participate in the Department's undergraduate and graduate programs.

The College of Social Sciences & Public Policy at Florida State University invites applications for two tenure-track appointments at the Assistant Professor level to begin August 2026. We seek individuals in any area of spatial data science who would work within the newly created Spatial Data Science Center (SDSC) under the Directorship of Professor A. Stewart Fotheringham. The Spatial Data Science Center (SDSC) brings together some of the world's most prominent experts in the field. It currently consists of 12 faculty members and 18 Ph.D. students dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in spatial data analytics. The Spatial Data Science Center (SDSC) is committed to developing solutions to some of society's most pressing problems in areas such as health, transportation, crime, poverty and the environment through the power of spatial data analytics. To support this mission, the center also has dedicated space and resources designed to foster collaboration, innovation, and impact.

The successful candidates will be dynamic and innovative, with demonstrated commitment to maintain an active research program that will yield high-quality research publications and external grant submissions. The candidates will also demonstrate and value high quality teaching and mentoring at both undergraduate and graduate levels.
