Gerald Shoultz will complete his term as Secretary/Treasurer of the Southern Demographic Association (SDA), on January 1, 2026. Therefore, SDA is looking for someone to fill the position of Secretary/Treasurer. The position is for a three-year term, from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028, renewable by the SDA Board of Directors.
Duties of the position are listed below. Members of SDA who are interested in the position should send a CV and cover letter to SDA President Joseph Lariscy (jlariscy@tamu.edu) by Friday, June 27.
Duties
1. Maintain all financial accounts and records for SDA. This includes a checking account and savings account. You would need to keep and maintain bank statements for all accounts and any other information related to deposits or expenditures.
2. Communicate regularly with the webmaster to make sure the website and links for the annual meeting are up to date.
3. Present a report to the Board of Directors on financial statements and membership numbers at the yearly Board meeting in October and the mid-year Board meeting in April.
4. Maintain membership information.
5. Work with the Virginia delegate on the Board to ensure that all paperwork related to the organization’s Virginia SCC status is filed annually and any fees from this process are paid.
6. File form 990-N with the IRS yearly.
7. Run the election for President and Board members in summer of each year.
9. Respond to emails sent to the organization or forward emails to the appropriate Board member for response.
10. Handle organizational aspects of the annual meeting. This includes setting the registration fee in consultation with the Board, handling money and registration information from participants, running registration at the meeting, preparing name tags, working with the local arrangements chair to make sure costs are reasonable and pay costs associated with the meeting. This is the bulk of the work as Secretary/Treasurer, hence, the busiest time for this position is in the fall.
If selected by the Board, you will meet and work with Gerald Shoultz at the annual meeting this year to get additional training on the position.
